Riding the subways of Tokyo you’ll notice (as well as in any big city around the world) a lot of chunky, square toed, rubber soled shoes worn by businessmen on their way to work. It’s a tragic sight, but one all too familiar for those who appreciate finer footwear.
Those very unattractive shoes were the inspiration for our new Flex Monk Straps. Built on the Plaza Last, with an Oiled Leather Sole (great for rainy days), Alden’s Flex Welt Construction, in a buttery Soft Black Calf, these “Salary Man Shoes” are “everday comfortable” and will take the place of those chunky-monkey shoes in a perfect world.

Though Monk Straps don’t yet have a place in my wardrobe, I admire the reverse-inspiration at play behind these more than words can say…the footwear of businessmen in the subways of Los Angeles and San Francisco could certainly use such and overhaul.
Beautiful. A classic template, with a Flex-Welt Oiled Leather Soul and Soft Calf upper, this is the shoe to look great at any time and still function just as well in inclimate weather.
