We’ve just received one of our rarest Alden models yet, the Cigar Tanker Boot.
As much as we would like to offer this boot to every Alden fan out there, due to its very limited nature, we have already sold our entire allocation.
We have gotten a lot of hate mail in the past for posting these types of sold out limited models on our website. However, we feel as though the number of people out there who genuinely enjoy seeing pictures of our shoes outnumber the haters by a landslide.

It’s a good thing I didn’t see this until it was sold out. Big fan of the commando sole–would like to see more done with that.
How are you supposed to get these boots if you are sold out before getting them and you don’t take preorders? Your policy is impeding you from selling any new pairs of these boots.

Unfortunately these were offered to customers with long histories with us. We may release future orders on a first come first served basis but in-store only.

It really is unabashedly elitist to reserve the opportunity for the most exclusive offerings to those who can only afford to have “a long history” with you.
Although I’m sure it goes a long way in nurturing your current customer base it is extremely short sighted in my opinion in attracting new customers.
They are however very nice looking boots.

Thank you for your comment. I understand how you can feel that way. However, please see it from our perspective. It is very difficult to explain to a long time customer, who has spent thousands of dollars with us, why he wasn’t offered a pair of hard to get shoes that he would have really appreciated having. We must take care of our existing customers with the best service possible before trying to get new customers just by offering these types of products to them. Servicing people to the best ability is part of our vision and philosophy. I disagree with you that this philosophy is short sighted but I do respect your opinion.

Great website and an awesome collection of shoes.
I guess my question after seeing your above reply is why don’t you simply take more pre-orders? I’m sure many potential customers, including myself, would be more than happy to place a deposit or even prepay the ENTIRE cost of the shoe leaving you in a risk less but profitable position.
Does Alden limit the number of shoes you can order and thus it makes sense to save the “slots” for long-term customers?
If so, why do you think Alden would limit the order size if they know each pair they would make was already paid for?

Thanks for the comment. The problem is the lack of supply of the rarer colors of shell such as cigar, whiskey, ravello, and #4. The supply is not enough for the demand. We may only get 100 pairs a year of these colors.
