Appreciation of You
Mahalo. Without you, I would not be where I am today. Back in 2000 when I was a bright eyed college student working part time at Xavier Shoes, I had no idea that ten years later I would own my own “Xavier” and have a store on the mainland US in addition to Hawaii. I told the Alden rep at that time, Nate Humble (who is my Alden rep today), that one day I would open a shoe store of my own. He didn’t take me seriously at the time, but four years later he did and the rest is history.
Throughout the past 6 years I’ve come to realize that I don’t love shoes. I like shoes. What I love is the relationships I have made and the enthusiasm for shoes I believe I have sparked in people who didn’t take shoes seriously in the past.
Without taking more of your time, at this time of expansion for my business, reflection on what got me here has really made me realize what was the most important factor involved. The support, friendship, and trust you all have placed in me. For that, I say Mahalo.

Our Grand Re-Opening Party
On Thursday April 15, 250 friends and family of Leather Soul gathered for a great night of fellowship. It was such a wonderful time. We are so grateful to those who attended. Without their support and friendship we would not be where we are today.

Alden Shoes – The Factory Visit 2010
12 hours by plane but extremely close to our hearts is the Alden Shoe factory in Middlebourough, Massachusetts. Touring the factory is like taking a lesson in American history. A hundred years ago, the New England area was a hotbed of US shoemaking. Alden is the last to stand, a testament to the Tarlow family who took over the Alden Shoe Company from CH Alden. Today, Art Tarlow Jr. continues his family tradtion of quality, hard work, and passion.
We are extremely proud and passionate about our partnership with the Alden Shoe Company. For almost six years now, we have been representing them to our best ability here in Honolulu. We truly look forward to a long, wonderful relationship that continues from this generation to the next.
Thank you to Art Tarlow, Bob Clark, Nate Humble, Rick Hajjar, Jamie Hajjar, Diane-Sharon-Pam-Martha-and all the other wonderful ladies, and especially the shoemakers continuing the tradition of fine American made footwear.

When I realized my dream and opened Leather Soul back in November 2004, I never imagined that I would be where I am today and it is all because of you.
Five years later, I still wake up and have the same feeling of satisfaction and passion I had back then. I feel blessed to have such great customers, employees, and friends supporting my business.

The chukka boot continues to be our top seller year after year. Alden’s shell cordovan chukka boot, #1339, is a timeless design. Some of our customers wear them casually, others wear them with suits. For our 5th anniversary model, I wanted to offer the classic chukka design, in a very comfortable, neutral fitting last, with a dressier welt and single oiled leather sole.

Alden Shoes – Aging of Color #8 Shell Cordovan
The aging process of leather shoes is something a shoe connoisseur relishes. The patina, or the color age gives to the leather, is something to really behold.
This particular pair of shoes is a pair owned by Tom from back in 2001. Notice the lightening of the leather and development of a unique patina.
